- Malta Red Cross issues earthquake appeal
25.08.2016
In the aftermath of the 5.5-magnitude earthquake in Italy on the 24th of September, Malta Red Cross have launched an appeal to collect funds to support this cause.
The earthquake, which had a preliminary magnitude of 6.2, struck at 3:36 a.m., about 6.5 miles southeast of the town of Norcia in the Umbria region, followed by about 200 aftershocks over several hours.
Towns in three regions — Umbria, Lazio, and Marche — were devastated by the quake, which could be felt as far away as Bologna in the north and Naples in the south.
Local Red Cross volunteers are treating people who have been injured and providing food and support for the families who have lost their loved ones.
